The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko ordered the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) to rectify the difference between rate currency band and real hryvnia rate. The press-service of President reports it.

“The current currency band is being kept; but the rate does not refer to the currency band”, declared Viktor Yushchenko.

In accordance with it he insists on returning to the rate currency band, to announce its limits and to follow it strictly after mutual consultations between the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Bank are held, reports Ukrayinski novyny.

Also President ordered the National Bank to provide always stability of rate policy. “The National Bank is to be always out of politics and to enjoy confidence. It should be the party that is not involved into any processes”, he noted.

As a reminder, in November 2007 the council of the NBU kept forecast of average annual hryvnia rate UAH 4,95-5,25 per US $1 for 2008.

The forecast of average annual hryvnia rate was valid for 2007 also within the limits UAH 4,95-5,25 per US $1.

On May, 26 the NBU council decided to found a work-group for revision of hryvnia rate UAH 4,95-5,25 per US$1 for 2008.

Earlier chairman of the NBU council Petr Poroshenko assumes possible broadening of hryvnia currency band from UAH 4,95-5,25 per US $1 to UAH 4,90-5,30 per US $1.
