The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has chosen Kyiv, Donetzk, Lviv and Kharkiv as the host cities at the European football championship 2012, the Minister for Youth and Sport Yuri Pavlenko reported.
“A moment ago the UEFA president Michelle Platini has announced at a press conference they decided to choose Kyiv, Donetzk, Lviv and Kharkiv as the host cities at the championship in Ukraine”, Yuri Pavlenko reported.
According to him, the UEFA has fixed a date for Ukraine until November 30 demonstrating solution of those problems that exist in these cities. If it is not solved, 2 out of 4 cities may be substituted for others (Dnipropetrovsk and Odessa). “I am sure these problems, first of all, relating to airports, will be solved; moreover, we have got a real chance to become the host cities of Euro-2012”, Minister told.
Ukraine will fulfill all the UEFA requirements strictly concerning preparation of cities for the championship, Ukrayinski novyny is citing Yuri Pavlenko as saying.
05:39 p.m. However, the UEFA has published on the official website that the UEFA executive committee decided today at the meeting not to approve Donetzk, Lviv and Kharkiv as the host cities at the 2012 Euro group stage. The cities have a time to fulfill conditions relating to stadiums, infrastructure of airports, regional transportation and accommodation until November 30 2009.
Besides, the UEFA executive committee decided to not approve Kyiv as a host city at the 2012 Euro final. The final match will be held in the capital of Ukraine only if the city fulfils conditions by November 30 2009. Yet Kyiv has been approved as a host city at the group stage matches, a quarterfinal match or matches and 1 semifinal match.
The UEFA executive committee decided not to approve Dniropetrovsk and Odessa as the host cities and not consider it as a reserve, RBC-Ukraine reports.
